Phase 1 of GIBS MBA

Students need to successfully complete all requirements for the PGDip GM in order to be eligible to gain entry into the GIBS MBA

The PGDip GM phase is phase 1 of the MBA Programme. A 60% average is required in this phase in order to proceed onto phase 2 (MBA phase). Combined, both phases take two years to complete if done in the part-time/modular format,  or just over one year for intensive students. Should you already hold a postgraduate qualification, you may apply for credits only when you have been accepted on the programme.

Acceptance is on a round by round basis, we highly recommend you apply as early as possible. No late applications will be considered.

Minimum Requirements

  • Completed degree/ SAQA accredited NQF 7 qualification
  • At least 5 years work experience, of which 2 years must be management
  • Matriculation certificate level competence in mathematics
  • Competence in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a web browser
  • Good english language skills verbally and in written format
  • SAQA certificate for all qualifications completed outside SA (international)

Should you not hold a degree or a SAQA accredited NQF 7 qualification, you will be required to complete the GMAT test. The GMAT is facilitated by an external company and minimum score required for your application to be considered is 550. International Students/Foreign Qualifications: Applicants who hold a foreign qualification need to send their qualifications to the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) for evaluation before applying to GIBS. Applicants from Non- English speaking countries will have to complete an English Proficiency Test 


Total tuition : R297 000 (includes the PGDIP and MBA phases. Excludes Global module.)

Application fee: These fees correlate with the application closing dates and are non-refundable, payable upon application.

  • Round 1: R2 000 (Early bird)
  • Round 2: R3 000 
  • Round 3: R4 000

Registration fee: R17 000 (non-refundable, will be payable upon acceptance to the PGDip programme. Offset against the cost of tuition in your first year.)

Global module fee: US$ 4620 - US$ 7230 (Invoiced in year two, based on exchange rate).

International students: R5 000 (Excluding SADC countries)

Global Module is a compulsory module to be completed in your MBA phase (year 2), which comprises of an international trip to understand the key teachings of international business. You will be given a number of countries to choose from and the cost will depend on the chosen destination. The details of this module will be provided in year 2.

GIBS does not charge VAT on tuition fees and all prices are subject to change.

The scholarships will cover up to 90% of student tuition and global module expenses. Special requirements

Special needs:

If you have a special need or disability, GIBS will look into accommodating this. However, it is a requirement that the student will need to provide medical certificates and supporting documentation as requested by the GIBS Admissions Office. We recommend you contact the Admissions Office before you complete your application.

Religious observance:

Observant students must contact the GIBS Admissions Office before you start your application to ascertain if or how your specific needs may be accommodated. Note all programmes include weekend classes and attendance is compulsory.

Admission Process

  • Step 1: Compile all supporting documents. Click here for the list of supporting documents
  • Step 2: Submit your online application along with all supporting documents and pay the application fee.
  • Step 3: Application is processed and documents verified (3-4 weeks).
  • Step 4: You will be assigned a test date for the GIBS Entrance Test (You will receive an invitation to the test once your documents have been verified).
  • Step 5: Complete the Entrance Test written at GIBS (all degreed applicants) OR submit GMAT results (if non-degreed).
  • Step 6: Await for test results from the assessor and submit your references (2 weeks).
  • Step 7: Applicant profile is reviewed and feedback will sent to the applicant.
All accepted students are required to pay the registration fee within 3 weeks of acceptance to secure your place on the programme

There are set test dates for the year that cannot be change upon individual requests. Should you not be able to attend any of the given dates, you will have to make arrangements to write the assessment directly with the assessor at an additional cost. Please click here for assessors details. 

Please ensure the billing details are correct when completing the application form as any request to make amendments will delay your application. Ensure you have the VAT number should your company be funding the tuition fees.
