University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) has partnered with United Arab Emirates’ Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority’s (SEWA’s) learning and development Academy to become a executive education provider in support of the academy’s mandate.

SEWA aspires to be a continuously innovative and learning organisation. SEWA’s mandate is to be a trusted learning and development centre to support the utility’s growth and sustainability goals and it is tasked with developing a more versatile workforce equipped with the ability to execute strategy, serve customers proficiently, and drive agile innovation. Through high-impact learning interventions to be delivered by GIBS for the first time in UAE, SEWA’s professionals will be sufficiently equipped to respond to new opportunities presented in the UAE market.

GIBS will deliver various programmes to SEWA Academy’s professionals on a range of topics such as; senior executive development, customer centricity, innovation, business acumen, and women in leadership. With an increasing footprint across the African continent, and now the Middle East, GIBS recognises that the world of work and the skills and knowledge required is changing at a rate never before seen in human history, due to the relentless advancement of technology. As a result, GIBS is poised to provide globally relevant support to executives that operate in differing contexts, the world over.

SEWA is committed to providing a high-quality supply of electricity, water and gas, and continuous development of its facilities. The organisation has since its inception, assumed continuous expansion programmes to meet the increasing demand for the respective utilities. SEWA is led by His Excellency, Dr. Rashid Alleem, who is ranked third among the 25 most influential CEOs on the Gulf Corporate Council (GCC) and is considered one of the 100 most influential CEOs in the Middle East. His Excellency, Dr. Alleem has a Ph.D. from the University of Salford, in Manchester, UK.

Nishan Pillay, executive director, Open Programmes at GIBS said, “This is an exciting opportunity for GIBS, and we are proud to be working with an innovative and successful organisation in a region that is dynamic and growing. We look forward to making a positive impact through our programmes.”

His Excellency, Dr. Rashid Alleem, chairman at Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) commented "The true test of a great and visionary organisation is neither a healthy balance sheet, nor the quality standard certificates, but rather the kind of men and women the organisation turns out”.
