GIBS YES Initiative: Pre-school Teacher Assistant Job Vacancies

​The Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), in collaboration with The Early Care Foundation (ECF) are offering 21 unemployed black South Africans between the ages of 18 – 35 years the opportunity to be employed in a fixed-term contract of employment for 12 months to  work in a Gauteng-based preschool setting for a year as a pre-school teacher assistant.

We need your assistance to help identify potential candidates for this programme so please forward this communication to people in your network who you believe may meet the candidate requirements.

Successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to apply for a bursary to enable them to participate in a Level 4 accredited training process to become a certified preschool teacher, thus opening up doors for them to work in the Early Childhood Development sector in the future – either as an employee of a preschool, or as a founder and principal of their own preschool.

Applicants need to meet the following criteria:
•             Grade 12 pass
•             Valid Police Clearance Certificate or proof of submission
•             Previous experience in childcare preferred
•             An African, Indian or Coloured person who is a South African Citizen by birth
•             Between the age of 18 – 35 years old
•             Currently unemployed
•             Must not have participated in a YES Initiative programme in the past

Personal Profile:
•             An interest in and passion for the development of young children.
•             An interest in developing entrepreneurial skills.
•             Strong knowledge of methods to engage with and teach young children.
•             Patient and supportive through the learning process of the child.
•             Enthusiastic and encouraging.
•             Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•             Ability to stand for long hours at a time while teaching.

Additional information

Duties and responsibilities of the job:
•             Create and plan indoor and outdoor activities in line with the school curriculum.
•             Prepare lesson plans.
•             Use age-appropriate learning resources for children.
•             Coordinate activities to assist develop children holistically.
•             Promote language development through story-telling, songs and discussions.
•             Encourage learning through play.
•             Classroom administration which includes taking registers, reporting on child progress and development, logging child safety incidents, communicating with parents, etc.
•             Ensure children’s safety and care at all times.
•             Ensure the classroom is kept as a clean and safe environment.
•             Assist the head teacher in whatever way is required.
•             Assist with toilet training needs of children as specified by parents.
•             Interact with other teachers and administrative staff as needed
