The University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) recently held its formal graduation ceremony for all its academic programmes where a total of 307 graduates walked the stage from the following programmes: Master in Business Administration (MBA), Post-graduate Diploma in Business Administration (PDBA) and Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA).
The event was held in the Aula theatre at the University of Pretoria’s main campus in Hatfield and was emceed by Professor Cheryl De la Rey, vice chancellor at UP.
Numerous awards were presented to top students from the different graduating classes, winners of top student awards were: Kevin Croft from the full-time MBA class who attained 17 distinctions, Elizabeth Williams from the part-time and modular MBA class who accomplished 16 distinctions as well as Andrew Lloys Ellis from the PDBA class with six distinctions.
Dean of GIBS, Professor Nick Binedell said, “Congratulations to the all students who graduated with their MBA, PDBA and DBA. It is a commendable accomplishment that could only have been achieved through your unwavering commitment, hard work and personal sacrifices. Well done, we wish you every success in your future”.
Professor Binedell went on to remind the graduates that receipt of their degree on paper was not the finish line but the beginning where implementation of the portfolio of skills, business experience and specialised knowledge learned had to be put into practice. “We are living in a fast-paced dynamic and highly competitive market, we hope that what you have learned will help you go out and build businesses to create much needed jobs in the country,” he added.
