Helena Barnard, previously associate professor and director of research at University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), has been appointed as a full professor at the institution effective from 1 January 2015.
In her role as director of research, Helena leads the GIBS doctoral programme and also works with various faculty members to optimise research outputs across the school. She currently serves on the editorial board of the Global Strategy Journal. She was also instrumental in ensuring the Academy of Management (AOM), the leading professional organisation for management scholars, conducted its first-ever conference outside of North America at GIBS in January 2013. She served on the organising committee of that conference. She is widely published in a number leading journals, has presented a number of papers at conferences locally and abroad and is a regular contributor to local business media.
Professor Nick Binedell, outgoing dean of GIBS, said: “Helena has been an outstanding member of the faculty and has made a significant contribution to the faculty through research, the management of the doctoral programme and in the classroom. I congratulate her.”
