The African Case Study Conference 2024

The GIBS Case Study Hub and Ivey Publishing invite you to join us as we host a two-day conference themed:

African Stories Matter

Ivey Publishing and the GIBS Case Study Hub are excited to present an opportunity for African case writers to collaborate and showcase African case studies.  The African Case Conference is the first academic conference dedicated to the writing and teaching cases from an African perspective.  The purpose of this conference is to support and showcase African case writers and their cases, with the ultimate objective of telling African stories to business students all over the world. The conference is a unique opportunity to engage with other African Case writers and receive feedback on your case or case idea.  The conference is structured to enhance case writing skills in the morning and round-table discussions on your cases and work-in-progress cases in the afternoons.  The round table sessions will be led by experienced case writers who are positioned to assist and guide participants to publish their cases.

The conference will be divided into four sessions spread over two days with a reception function and a gala dinner for networking.

The morning sessions presented by Ivey Publishing will focus on skills enhancement and cover the following topics:

  1. Bring the best to your classroom: writing cases to elevate your teaching - by David Wood
  1. Theory Matters: Delivering theory to a good story - by David Wood
  1. Writing award winning cases - by Violetta Gallagher and David Wood
  1. The use of multimedia to enhance the learning experience - by David Wood, Violetta Gallagher and Candis McInnes

The afternoon sessions will encourage participation from delegates through work-in-progress case presentations. These sessions will offer a unique opportunity for participants to present their case studies to an African business school audience and receive valuable feedback. The goal is to showcase new cases, facilitate case development, and expand the network of case writers. The discussions will be moderated by seasoned case writers to ensure a productive exchange of ideas.

The GIBS Case Study Hub Case Conference aims to provide participants with valuable networking opportunities as well as processes, practical insights, and knowledge gained from Ivey Publishing's workshops. This will enable participants to refine their case writing skills and create award-winning cases, thus achieving the objective of showcasing African case studies to the world and demonstrating how African stories matter.
