Neal Froneman is a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand in Mechanical Engineering, and also holds a degree in Accounting Science from the University of South Africa.
He has a career in technical, operations management and corporate development positions spanning over 20 years at Gold Fields of South Africa Limited, Harmony Gold and JCI Limited, and still maintains his registration as a Professional Engineer.
In April 2003, Neal became CEO of Aflease Gold. He was primarily responsible for the creation of Uranium One in 2005 based substantially on Aflease’s uranium assets, and held the CEO position at Uranium One until his resignation in February 2008.
Neal was instrumental in building Aflease Gold into Gold One through a series of reverse take-overs in May 2009. He held the CEO position at Gold One until his appointment as executive director and CEO of Sibanye on 1 January 2013. In May 2016, he was elected to serve as a Vice President of the South African Chamber of Mines.
