Join Interim Dean of GIBS, Dr Morris Mthombeni in Conversation with Seelan Gobalsamy, Omnia Group CEO
Seelan Gobalsamy is an internationally experienced business leader with vast financial services experience. He has served in senior and executive leadership roles across emerging markets for almost 20 years, working at numerous blue-chip companies including Old Mutual in various roles, Liberty Holdings as CEO of the corporate division and later CEO of Emerging Markets, and STANLIB as Group CEO. Seelan started at Omnia as a Non-executive Director in 2018, becoming Group Financial Director in 2019. He was appointed Group CEO soon after at a time when Omnia was in a position of financial turbulence - tasked with spearheading the Group's turnaround strategy at a time when Omnia found itself in a position of immense financial turbulence.
His conviction is that making a difference in people's lives (customers, employees, partners, and communities) is what ultimately creates value for all stakeholders. He is passionate about building meaningful connections with people (empowering them and supporting their growth); effecting positive social change, driving sustainability, innovation, and forward-thinking; building world-class businesses; and furthering Africa's potential.
Seelan currently also serves as a Non-Executive Director at Bidvest Life Ltd and JSG Capital, a company he founded. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.), Accounting, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting both from Rhodes University. He has also completed an Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School.
