Sanda Ojiambo will speak to key elements of the Africa Strategy of the UN Global Compact, elaborating on how business can lead the acceleration of responsible and sustainable business across the entire African Continent.
About the speaker:
Sanda Ojiambo is the Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) based in New York, a position she has held since June 2020. Ms. Ojiambo, served as Head of Sustainable Business and Social Impact at Safaricom in Kenya, since 2010, and as Senior Manager of the Safaricom and MPESA Foundations from 2008 until 2010, during which time she led the implementation of several public-private partnership initiatives between Safaricom and United Nations entities.
Ms. Ojiambo holds a Master of Arts in public policy from the University of Minnesota, in the United States, and a Bachelor of Arts in economics and international development from McGill University, in Canada.
The UNGC was launched in July 2000 by the United Nations Secretary‑General as a strategic policy and advocacy initiative, calling for the alignment of business operations and strategies with 10 universal principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. With more than 10,000 corporate participants and other stakeholders from over 160 countries engaged through 68 country networks, the UNGC is the largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative in the world.
