Andrew Jennings is a highly accomplished British senior retail executive with more than 45 years of achievement in leading some of the world's most respected high-end, speciality and department stores.
These include Harrods (General Manager) and House of Fraser (Managing Director) UK, Brown Thomas (Deputy Chairman) Ireland, Holt Renfrew (President) Canada, Saks Fifth Avenue (President) USA, Woolworths (CEO) South Africa and Karstadt Group (CEO) Germany. Recognised for his leadership capabilities and performance-driven management style, Andrew commands a vast knowledge of consumer trends, vendor networks and retail practices in both mature and emerging markets. He has distinguished himself in six countries and on four continents with his agility to translate traditional business models into modern retailing in an increasingly fast-paced world of change.
Key to his sustained success is his ability to adapt his approach to address the challenges and optimise the opportunities presented by dynamic trading environments at pivotal stages in their evolution - from the sophistication of London to the new world complexities of South Africa. Recognised for his trademark passion for brands, breakthrough marketing and the creation of memorable consumer experiences, Andrew was decorated by the Italian Government for his excellence in retail as a Grande Ufficiale Ordine al Merito (Italian Knighthood) in 2006.
Having recently launched the next chapter of his international career as Senior Retail Advisor, Chairman and Board Member, Andrew is now permanently based in London working with retailers, private equity companies and consulting groups. These include Ted Baker PLC, Hema Europe, Alpha Wealth (SA) and Curzon movie business.
A respected voice for the retail industry, he is a sought-after speaker at conferences and forums on the subject of leadership, change and innovation.
In November 2017, Andrew launched his book titled Almost is Not Good Enough – How to Win or Lose in Retail, sharing pertinent experiences and lessons from his career. His book includes contributions from thirty four Retail CEOs and Presidents from around the world on how to remain relevant in today's fast changing retail environment. The book has been very well received and was shortlisted for Best Business Book of 2018.
Andrew is chairman of the Prince's Trust Retail Leadership Group – a charity which assists disadvantaged, out of work young people. With a strong belief in the integral role that young people play in the retail field, he has a constant focus on the recognition and development of young talent affording them the opportunity to commence and progress their careers. All proceeds from the sale of his book are being donated to The Prince's Trust.
