Join Vukani Mngxati, CEO of Accenture in Africa as he debates these issues with the Interim Dean of GIBS, Dr Morris Mthombeni.

About the speaker:

Vukani Mngxati is the Chief Executive Officer of Accenture in Africa. In 2019, he was appointed the Commissioner for Presidential Commission on the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Mngxati joined Accenture in 2000 after completing his studies and made his way to the senior manager level. With more than 20 years of consulting experience, Mngxati brings extensive experience in various strategic roles, combining technical expertise and business acumen. He also understands the local market and has been delivering real value as well as the impact for public and private sector clients through innovative digital solutions. Prior to his current role, he was the Managing Director for Accenture’s Health and Public Service – a position that has given him invaluable experience and insight in the public sector space.

Mngxati is deeply passionate about helping clients achieve the type of agility they need to succeed in today’s climate with a strong interest in emerging digital technologies. He believes embracing such technologies is vital for Governments and clients’ survival and success. “This is a journey that not only improves service delivery and bottom lines but is also a part of nation-building, making this an incredibly exciting time to be able to help shape the future of Africa through digital technologies,” says Mngxati.

Mngxati holds a BCom degree in Business Information Systems and Accounting from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

  • Dr Morris Mthombeni is the Interim Dean of the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), following his appointment in 2020. He joined GIBS in 2014 and was appointed as the Executive Director of Faculty in 2017. He has a wealth of corporate experience in banking, insurance, and investment management - with a cumulative 30 years in the financial services industry.

    Prior to joining GIBS in 2014, Dr Mthombeni held several leadership positions at Liberty Life and Momentum, culminating in a four-year tenure as CEO at Momentum Investments and as an Executive Director of MMI Holdings Limited.

    Dr Mthombeni has, and continues to, also hold positions as a non-executive director in the banking and insurance industries.

    In addition to his leadership work, Dr Mthombeni is a passionate academic. On academic programmes, his primary focus has been the PhD and DBA programmes as well as the Master’s programmes where he lectures in the areas of Corporate Strategy, Corporate Governance, Environment of Business, Fintech, Strategic Leadership and Innovation. He also lectures on GIBS' flagship Global Executive Development Programme, Board Leadership Programme, and the Harvard Senior Executive Leadership Programme for senior managers and executives.

    Dr Mthombeni has engaged in teaching, research and corporate governance assignments in South Africa, Botswana, England, Germany, Holland, Mozambique, Nigeria, Poland, Rwanda, Russia, Swaziland, Sweden, the USA, and Zimbabwe.

    Finally, Dr Mthombeni contributes internationally to the higher education sector as a member of the South African Business Schools Association (SABSA) Deans and Directors forum, a member of the Academy of International Business Deans Roundtable, a member of the UN Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) Global Chapter Council and a member of the Association of MBAs and Business Graduates Association (BGA) Africa & Middle East Advisory Council.
