Join us for a conversation with Herman Mashaba, Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, about the 10-point plan for a new, improved Joburg and bringing investment and exclusive growth to the city.

Newly elected Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba was born on 26 August 1959 in GaRamotse, Hammanskraal, Gauteng. He is the founder of cosmetics company, Black Like Me, and is a renowned businessman having worked his way up from near-poverty to hold high-ranking positions in the property and real estate; consumer goods; building, construction and engineering; and mining, energy and natural resources sectors.

Herman resigned from his position as chairman of the Free Market Foundation to pursue a career in politics.

He is the author of two books: “Black Like Me” and “Capitalist Crusader”, both of which detail his business savvy despite having grown up with the odds against him in the apartheid regime.

Herman is married to Connie and they have two children, Khensani and Rhulani. He plays golf and tennis when he finds the time, and he supports both Soweto soccer rivals Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

Herman believes that innovation and change are the bedrock of a well-managed, compassionate, and dynamic city. His vision is to create many jobs in the City of Gold over five years.
