The EDA was launched in 2012 and is the focal point of entrepreneurship education at GIBS. To advance its objective of facilitating thought leadership in entrepreneurship, the EDA has embarked on developing a series of speaker events targeted at entrepreneurs and other stakeholders in the entrepreneurship ecosystem. Nexia SAB&T, one of the largest black-owned auditing firms in the country, has partnered with the EDA to host this speaker series and we would like you to attend.
About our speakers:
Lesego Semenya, is a chef and entrepreneur that has worked at The Westcliff under renowned chef Nicky Gibbs. In 2010, he took part in a World Cup pie designing competition run by the British High Commission where his pie won and was named the Official pie of the visiting British football fans. The prize included working in a Michelin Star rated restaurant in London owned by Richard Corrigan. Lesego has catered to Howard Buffett (Warren Buffett's son) annually, catered to The British High Commission as well as Liverpool FC. He has also catered to numerous South African and international celebrities. Lesego was the official ambassador of the DStv Foodies campaign (2015), the face and co-collaborator for Singleton's "Made with Taste" campaign (2016), a Top Chef South Africa judge (2016), an influencer for numerous whisky and food brands, a collaborator with UberEATS (2016/2017), the chef creator, food ambassador and influencer for SABMiller's new beer Carver's Weiss and Power FM's resident chef. He recently launched his first cookbook Dijo: My Food, My Journey.
Phillipa Geard, is the Founder and CEO of multi-award winning company RecruitMyMom, an innovative online recruitment agency for companies needing skilled flexible and part-time staff. More recently she launched RecruitAGraduate, an online platform designed for hiring college and university graduates and interns. She and RecruitMyMom have won eight business awards including Santam and Fairlady Woman of the Future Winner 2019: Job Creator of the year winner at the 2018 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, Small Business Entrepreneur of the Year 2018, and National Woman in Business Champion Winner 2017 amongst others. Phillipa is an EY Winning Women Programme alumni and an Endeavor entrepreneur.
Mbali Nwoko, is an award-winning commercial farmer, entrepreneur, speaker and columnist. She is the CEO of Green Terrace which is an agribusiness based in Boksburg, Johannesburg that farms high value vegetable crops, and supplies to leading retailers, food processing companies and fresh produce markets across South Africa. Mbali is a GIBS EDA alumni, after completing an intensive Small Business Boost Programme sponsored by J.P Morgan. Her recent accolades, among others, include the Pan African Award for the Most Influential Women in Business and Government Country Winner in Agriculture – CEO Global 2019, Top 100 Young Mandela's of the Future 2019 – Media 24, Top 8 Influential Agriculturalist 2019 – National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC), Top 100 Women Changing South Africa 2018 – Mail & Guardian.
Lynton Peters, is a retail and tech entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of OneCart; an online on demand e-commerce platform that is disrupting the FMCG retail industry and changing the way consumers shop for groceries and essentials online. Prior to OneCart, Lynton had over 10 years' experience in the corporate world initially as an electronic engineer in the software and electronics industry, and later on in innovation consulting both locally and in Singapore. Through this, Lynton has led and built multiple teams and has been exposed to a variety of different technologies, cultures and business strategies. Lynton's most recent role prior to OneCart was the Associate Director and Head of an advisory team in a Big 4 practice.
About our moderator:
Derrick Ndzavi, is a certified business advisor and a business consultant. He is the CEO of New DiscoveryBS, an Enterprise Development Company based in Johannesburg. He has mentorship/advisory experience of 18 years, the last company he worked for was Discovery Health which inspired him to start New DiscoveryBS. He worked with small businesses, government and private organisations in development, planning and strategies aimed at advancing entrepreneurship. Derrick has developed an APP as self-taught developer, RechargeMyBiz which connects Mentors/Advisors/Experts with Entrepreneurs, the APP allows Entrepreneurs to promote their businesses and engage amongst themselves.
