About the speakers
Jeffrey R. Immelt, Chairman and CEO
Mr Immelt has held several global leadership positions since coming to GE in 1982, including roles in GE's Plastics, Appliances, and Healthcare businesses. In 1989 he became an officer of GE and joined the GE Capital Board in 1997.
He has been named one of the "World's Best CEOs" three times by Barron's, and since he began serving as chief executive officer, GE has been named "America's Most Admired Company" in a poll conducted by Fortune magazine and one of "The World's Most Respected Companies" in polls by Barron's and the Financial Times.
Mr Immelt was the chair of President Obama's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness and is a member of The American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
Mr Immelt earned a B.A. degree in applied mathematics from Dartmouth College in 1978 and an M.B.A. from Harvard University in 1982. He and his wife have one daughter.
Mr Siyabonga I. Gama, Group Chief Executive of Transnet SOC Limited
Mr Siyabonga I. Gama has been Group Chief Executive of Transnet SOC Limited since April 13, 2016. Previously he was the Chief Executive of Transnet Freight Rail (Pty) Ltd. at Transnet SOC Limited and served as the Acting Group Chief Executive of Transnet SOC Limited from April 2015 to April 2016. Mr Gama also served as Chief Executive Officer of Spoornet, a subsidiary of Transnet Ltd.
He joined Transnet in 1994 where he initially served in the management ranks as port manager and general manager at Portnet, which culminated in him being appointed in 2000 as Chief Executive of the National Ports Authority of South Africa where he served for five years. He held two terms as Chairman of the Port Management Association of Eastern & Southern African (PMAESA) from 2000 to 2004.
Mr Gama has been an Executive Director at Transnet SOC Limited since October 1, 2015. He is also the past President of the Pan African Association for Africa Ports (PAPC) and has served as Vice-President of the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) until May 2005. Prior to joining Transnet, he held various management positions at Standard Bank and JP Morgan (New York).
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Swaziland; Certificate of Port Management from Vrije Universiteit; Advanced Executive Programme from New York University; Advanced Certificate Port & Operations Management from University of Singapore and IHE from Delft University.
