Join Dimension Data CEO, Brett Dawson, SA cycling icon, Douglas Ryder: MTN / Qhubeka Team Principal, Supersport Head of Production, Alvin Naicker and Dr Carol Austin, Director Health and Performance of Team MTN-Qhubeka since 2008, for a talk about how technology is disrupting the world of sport and health and fitness.

About the Speakers:

Douglas Ryder: MTN / Qhubeka Team Principal

Ryder by name and rider by nature, Douglas is a South African cycling icon. Having captained the national team from 1993 to 2002 and competed in the Olympics (Atlanta, 1996) and multiple World Championships, he also counts winning the Boland Bank Tour in 1995 and the Cape Argus Cycle Tour in 2001 as highlights of his career. Having raced for various professional teams as well as working for corporate businesses, Douglas brings the perfect blend of passion and experience to his role as team principal.

Brett Dawson, Chief Executive Officer, Dimension Data Holdings

Brett Dawson was appointed Chief Executive Officer in March 2004. Brett joined Dimension Data in 1997 and has held numerous positions within the Group. He first acted as Financial Director of the Group joint venture, OmniLink. Following the merger of OmniLink and Internet Solutions, Brett was appointed CEO of Internet Solutions. In September 2001, he relocated to take on the role of CFO of Dimension Data North America. In October 2002 Brett was appointed to the role of Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Dimension Data, Brett was responsible for corporate strategy and planning at National Brands Limited and held corporate finance positions at Anglovaal Limited and KPMG. Brett is a Chartered Accountant.

Dr Carol Austin

Dr Austin is Head of Performance Support and Medical at Team MTN-Qhubeka pb Samsung, Africa's first professional road cycling team. Since 2008 she has led a multidisciplinary team of sports science and medical professionals responsible for the design and implementation of the team's high performance program.  Under Carol's leadership the team has progressed African athletes from National to World Tour level performances. "The team's stellar 2015 performances are the products of our bold 10-year vision and progressive investment in world-class infrastructure, services and opportunities." says Carol. "We've fast-tracked each athlete's development through the application of leading edge technologies and methods, and rapidly bridged the significant divide that exists between African and world tour competition." Carol's dual qualifications as a medical doctor and endurance sports coach, complimented by her global corporate management experience, position her ideally for her role. She qualified as a medical doctor, and followed her interests in clinical research and global business through an 8-year pharmaceutical medicine career with Pfizer, in South Africa and New York. In 2004 she completed her coaching certifications in the USA and returned to South Africa with the goal of developing African cyclists for world class competition; specifically, to compete in the Tour de France.

Alvin Naicker, Head of Production @SuperSport International

Alvin Naicker is the currently the  Head of Production at SuperSport International. He has directed 3 Cricket World Cups for the station as well as been the executive producer on 4 FIFA World Cups since 2002. He lead the production team on the Rugby World cups of 2011 and 2015. He was also one of the content producers for the 2000/2004 Olympics and led the team on the on the 2008/2012 Olympics. He is currently Working on the Rugby World cup and planning for the 2016 Olympics and the EURO 2016. Alvin manages a team of +- 600 people including commentators ,presenters and guests , both locally and internationally.
