Brought to you by Coaching@GIBS – the business of being human

The GIBS Professional Business Coaching course is accredited by the International Coach Federation (ACSTH) and Institute of Management Consultants and Master Coaches South Africa (IMCSA). Our business coaching course is designed to provide you with the necessary coaching tools, experiences and feedback to develop your professional coaching competencies and kickstart your potential coaching career. This course is perfect for you, if you are looking to pivot your career to coaching. Our design team and faculty are committed to your business success. This course also provides frameworks to enhance your organisational coaching culture and further develop yourself as a human-centric leader.

Leaders across the globe recognize the importance of coach competencies and coaching leadership styles in catalyzing both their own and the team's freshest thinking. Coaching and mentoring has been featured as an enhancer of performance and growth. In today's complex world, where the traditional paradigm of command-control management no longer resonates, those that do not leverage coaching science, and consciously develop an organisational coach culture, may be left behind!

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • locate business coaching as a key tool for supporting individual development and leadership skills, thus supporting sustainable change in organisations;
  • improve your foundational knowledge of coaching science and competently use coaching skills and styles within an ICF competency framework;
  • build on the understanding of 'use of self' as a core concept in coaching;
  • understand and apply various coaching models;
  • understand the business context of professional coaching and its potential to enhance professional outputs; and
  • develop a personal road map for the next steps in your professional coaching journey (including guidance on completing your ICF credentialing process, if appropriate).

Coaching Programme Methodology

Assessment / Evaluation

This consists of observed business coaching sessions, feedback and independent study confirmation.

The programme is experiential in nature and blends coaching theory with practice in a way that can be integrated and applied back at work. One of the ICF requirements is that a certain number of coaching sessions are observed by ICF credentialed coaches. This happens during the programme and in the individual mentor-coach session. By the end of the programme, participants will have observed coaching practice, gained feedback from ICF coaches, and received assessment results to ensure they leave feeling confident in their coaching skills.  In addition, the ICF requires that GIBS validates that participants have completed the independent study attached to the programme  in accordance with ICF requirements.

International Coach Federation (ICF)

The ICF is a global organisation that exists to build, support and preserve the integrity of the coaching profession. It is dedicated to advancing the art, science and practice of professional coaching skills. Global membership now exceeds 30,000 and many members go on to obtain an ICF credential. There are now more than 10,000 credentialed coaches worldwide. There are three levels of credentialing: ACC (Associate Certified Coach), PCC (Professional Certified Coach and MCC (Master Certified Coach).

The Institute of Management Consultants and Master Coaches South Africa (IMCSA)

The Institute of Management Consultants and Master Coaches South Africa (IMCSA) is the professional body representing management consultants, business, executives and leadership coaches. It sets and maintains standards for these professions in South Africa. It seeks to make the professions recognised, respected and accepted as providing a valuable and indispensable service to organisations in South Africa and the Southern African Region.
