Develop professional coaching competences for sustained personal and organisational success

Brought to you by Coaching@GIBS – the business of being human

Your journey to becoming a professional business coach begins here.

The GIBS Professional Business Coaching course is accredited by the International Coach Federation (ACSTH) and Institute of Management Consultants and Master Coaches South Africa (IMCSA). Our PBCP Programme is designed to provide you with the necessary tools, experiences and feedback to develop your professional coaching competencies and kickstart your potential coaching career. This course is perfect for you, if you are looking to pivot your career to coaching. Our design team and faculty are committed to your business success. This course also provides frameworks to enhance your organisational coaching culture and further develop yourself as a human-centric leader.

Leaders across the globe recognize the importance of coach competencies in catalyzing both their own and the team's freshest thinking. Coaching has been featured as an enhancer of performance and growth. In today's complex world, where the traditional paradigm of command-control management no longer resonates, those that do not leverage a coach way of being, and consciously develop an organisational coach culture, may be left behind!

This course is designed and led by Master Coach Eileen Thayser. Eileen has a unique combination of skills and experience, including a long business career and a successful therapy practice. She is one of the few credentialed coaches in South Africa at the Master Certified Coach (MCC) level with the International Coach Federation (ICF).

Eileen is supported in her role as Lead Faculty by coaching experts, as well as experienced business leaders. In this way, you can expect a holistic learning experience that explores the benefits of coaching from all angles.

Key focus areas

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • locate coaching as a key tool for supporting individual development and leadership skills, thus supporting sustainable change in organisations;
  • improve your foundational knowledge of coaching and competently use coaching skills within an ICF competency framework;
  • build on the understanding of 'use of self' as a core concept in coaching;
  • understand and apply various coaching models;
  • understand the business context of coaching and its potential to enhance professional outputs; and
  • develop a personal road map for the next steps in your professional coaching journey (including guidance on completing your ICF credentialing process, if appropriate).

Programme Methodology

Assessment / Evaluation

  • This consists of observed coaching sessions, feedback and independent study confirmation.

  • The programme is experiential in nature and blends theory with practice in a way that can be integrated and applied back at work. One of the ICF requirements is that a certain number of coaching sessions are observed by ICF credentialed coaches. This happens during the programme and in the individual mentor-coach session. By the end of the programme, participants will have observed coaching practice, gained feedback from ICF coaches, and received assessment results to ensure they leave feeling confident in their coaching skills.  In addition, the ICF requires that GIBS validates that participants have completed the independent study attached to the programme  in accordance with ICF requirements.

International Coach Federation (ICF)

  • The ICF is a global organisation that exists to build, support and preserve the integrity of the coaching profession. It is dedicated to advancing the art, science and practice of professional coaching. Global membership now exceeds 30,000 and many members go on to obtain an ICF credential. There are now more than 10,000 credentialed coaches worldwide. There are three levels of credentialing: ACC (Associate Certified Coach), PCC (Professional Certified Coach and MCC (Master Certified Coach).

The Institute of Management Consultants and Master Coaches South Africa (IMCSA)

  • The Institute of Management Consultants and Master Coaches South Africa (IMCSA) is the professional body representing management consultants, business, executives and leadership coaches. It sets and maintains standards for these professions in South Africa. It seeks to make the professions recognised, respected and accepted as providing a valuable and indispensable service to organisations in South Africa and the Southern African Region.
Membership of the Institute is available to:
  • Business Coaches whose principal activity is the practice of business, executive and leadership coaching whether they are self-employed or employees of a firm in public practice.
  • Internal Coaches whose employers are not engaged in the public practice of coaching for a fee.
  • Academics who coach or conduct bona fide research into the profession of coaching in business.

Structure

  • This programme can be run online or on campus, the delivery methodology will define the structure of the programme.

  • The online delivery will run in two blocks of classes comprising 6 4,5 hour sessions.  Please refer to the brochure for the specific dates of these classes or contact the Programme Manager for assistance.

  • On campus delivery the programme is comprised of two modules consisting of 3 days each (total of 6 contact days).

  • There is a 90 minute individual mentor-coach session with an ICF credentialed coach in between blocks. Participants need to bring one voice recording of a real coaching session to the mentor-coach session. The programme also includes 5 fully-observed coaching triad sessions by an ICF-credentialed observer which includes three written feedback reports. At the end of the programme delegates will be issued with a GIBS BCC certificate of completion. They will also have accumulated all the necessary training hours towards an ICF credential should they choose to (along with an independent application and additional practical requirements) apply for ICF accreditation.
