Open Programmes

​​​​The GIBS Open Programmes (OP) unit is one pillar of Executive Education at GIBS.

We offer a range of short courses designed to focus on assisting organisations to develop individual leadership capabilities at a general management level down to specific functional areas. We aim to strike a key balance between supporting executives’ development needs and their busy day-to-day life. In an ever-changing business environment, it is critical to organisational success that executives have the right skills and knowledge to lead the organisation into the future. GIBS Open Programmes are well-known in the market for providing delegates with the applicable knowledge, critical skills and tools to impact on three levels: individual, team and the organisation at large. Personal development is the core of career and business development.

​In May 2015 GIBS was the only African and South African business school to be ranked as one of the top providers of executive education programmes according to the prestigious annual UK Financial Times (FT) Executive Education rankings.


Delegates can attend an Open Programme as an individual or as a company in one of the following learning structures:

​Open Programmes / Short Courses

GIBS’ Open Programmes give delegates the opportunity to learn from and interact with world-class local and international faculty and thought leaders, while collaborating with peers from different companies and industries. Through their research, industry knowledge and experience, GIBS faculty members are able to share their extensive knowledge, collaborate with delegates and assist them to not only apply these real-world examples in the classroom, but also back into the work environment. Programmes are highly inspirational and are designed to have a maximum impact with a strong emphasis on active learning, sharing of best practice, sharing of next practice and implementation of practical applications. The use of a dynamic learning approach is a key part of the GIBS experience to underpin and deepen both in and out of classroom learning.

In-House Programmes:       

The in-house division of Open Programmes is focused on customising short learning interventions (five days or less) for organisations, either based on our current OP portfolio of programmes or specifically designed based on the organisational need.



​Meet the team:

Nishen Munnisunker: Director, Open Programmes


Nishen came to education management via financial services. Previously the head of learning and development for Standard Bank’s Corporate and Investment Banking Risk division and National Training Manager for Nedbank Financial Planning, he has over 11 years of consulting, training and management development experience in Africa. Nishen initially joined GIBS as an executive development manager. Managing a portfolio of clients from across the different industries in South Africa, he was responsible for overseeing the full learning value chain. Currently, Nishen heads up the open programmes portfolio at GIBS.


Ginny Robertson: Associate Director, Open Programmes

Prior to working at GIBS, Ginny headed up the Distance Learning Centre at the British International Distance College. She also taught the Cambridge curriculum to O and A level students at the British International College. She trained as a high-school teacher specialising in Geography, Biology and Physical Education.​
