Finance for Non-Financial Managers

Business Planning for Non-Profits

Financial sustainability depends on effective, strategic long term planning, as well as accurate, efficient, and transparent monitoring of funds at the every level of an organisation

To successfully run programmes, non-profit managers must be well-versed in the financial aspects of their works, and able to report this in a clear and knowledgeable manner to various stakeholders.

This one-day Finance for Non-Financial Managers seminar, will teach you to:

  • Create and manage a basic financial management system for your organisation (budget, cash flow, income statement, balance sheet)
  • Read and interpret financial statements
  • Better understand your organisation’s financial risk.

On a more strategic level, Business Planning for Non-Profits will explore the strategic aspects of financial planning, and then look at the detailed components of business planning, to help you in designing a sustainable financial plan for your organisation or programme over the long term. Using in-depth case studies and key planning tools, you will explore how to:

  • Develop strategies for the non-profit organization to achieve financial stability
  • Develop a high level strategic management framework for your organization
  • Apply entrepreneurial principles and strategies
  • Develop a high level business plan for your organization

Building Long-term Funding Partnerships

Tough economic times make it harder than ever for those in the social sector to secure funding partners, and to maintain relationships with those who are scaling back or redirecting their funds.  In order to ensure that the impact of their initiatives is not lost, organisations and entrepreneurs must be sharp and innovative as they develop new relationships and cultivate long-term partners for sustainability.

This workshop helped participants to:

    * sharpen their pitch and proposals to potential sponsors
    * embed and build long term relationships with current partners
    * develop a model of shared value and negotiate terms which meet respective needs

Faculty: Michael Goldman is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at GIBS. He teaches, researches and consults in a number of marketing-related areas, including Marketing Strategy & Management, Customer Centricity, Sports Marketing and Sponsorship.
