As a student on the PMD you will be required to attend a number of on-campus learning experiences which combine discussions, case studies, debates and simulations. Each session will require preparation that you will undertake individually or in groups. For the remainder of the programme you will be preparing, studying, undertaking syndicate work and conducting your own research. You will also be involved with assignments relevant to the module you are studying and application of the knowledge in your own organisation’s situation.

The PMD comprises the following modules:

Group Dynamics (Including basic numeracy skills);

The Business Environment (Micro and Macro);
Learners completing this module will demonstrate an understanding of the micro and macroeconomics aspect of the business environment in South Africa and critically assess the likely impact of macroeconimic events on his/her business.

Innovation & Information and Knowledge Management;
Learners completing this module will have the ability to explain why information technology is key to organsiational success and how to create competitive advantage using information technology. Learners will also be introduced to using information technology to effect change in their organisation through innovation.

Operations Management (A compulsory company visit forms part of this module);
Learners will critically review the process in their businesses with a view to applying various improvement techniques to obtain market advantage, demonstrate an appreciation of operation management, critically asses its impact on the achivement of customer service (internal and external) and profit.

Project Management (Half Module);
This module will provide the essential techniques and skills managers of today require to initiate, manage, monitor and drive delivery through the life cycle of a project.

Entrepreneurship (Half Module);
This module will expose learners to the principles of creativity. The learners will be introduced to some basic frameworks for understanding the role of entrepreneurship and how to add competitive advantage.

Accounting (A compulsory accounting preparation module will precede this);
Learners completing this module will be able to understand basic accounting transactions; translate a set of accounting transactions into a simple income statement and balance sheet and contribute to the decision making process when dealing with issues that impact on annual financial statements.

Leadership and People Management;
Learners completing this module will have an appreciation of the synergies between Leadership and People Management; understand the need to develop Leadership and People Management competencies, and gain unique insights into improving Leadership and People Management effectiveness at their organisation.

Financial Management;
Learners will be provided with insights into the world of Financial Management both from a corporate and individual perspective with an emphasis on practical models for improving decision making in a competitive environment.

Marketing;
Learners successfully completing the module will have a deeper understanding of the role of marketing in creating, delivering and communicating the value provided by an organsiation to its chosen customers.

Strategy (This module will include a strategy simulation carried out at various points in the programme);
Learners will be introduced to the formulation, implementation and evaluation of business strategy. The importance of ethics in business decision making will be made clear and learners will be provided with tools to improve their thinking, both strategically and ethically.

An Action Learning Project (ALP);
During the periods you are not involved with on-campus study sessions, you will complete assignments relevant to the module you are studying. The method of assessment for all modules is one written assignment and a written 2-hour open books examination.
